When visiting Nyerere National Park, there are two different boat safaris available. The quick, 2-3 hour boat safari excursions along the Rufiji River outside the reserve, or the all-day boat safaris that explore the Rufiji River and the Selous Lakes. Both the morning and the afternoon are options for a quick boat safari. There is lovely light in the morning, but due to the higher temperatures in the afternoon, there is a larger likelihood of spotting crocodiles. The benefit of an afternoon boat safari is that you may cruise at dusk. One of the most stunning and game-rich regions of the Selous Game Reserve ecosystem, which spans the Rufiji River basin in southeast Tanzania, is Nyerere National Park, now the biggest National Park in Africa.
The ultimate wildlife adventure and an incredible introduction to unspoiled Africa can be found near Selous mapumziko Lodge at Nyerere National Park, a stunning, distinctive, and unspoiled safari location. Game drives, bird viewing, walking safaris, and boat safaris are just a few of the diverse safari pursuits available in the park. Particularly, the boat safari distinguishes this park from the others. Boat safaris are a great opportunity to view large animals and observe birds because of the park’s numerous canals. It has some of the most abundant animals and reptiles in Africa, including buffalo, elephants, lion prides, leopards, hyenas, eland, impala, bush deer, and giant Nile crocodiles in the river and lakes. What a stunning place to stay, traditional huts with western comforts. We did a sunset boat trip, which was just fantastic. Food was delicious for our whole stay. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Filbert and his team are just so lovely. (more…)
I visited with a few friends and we stayed for 2 nights. We started with a river safari thinking we’d only see hippo and crocs, but the number of brightly coloured birds astounded us. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient and we were treated to a lovely sunset. (more…)
Both the lodges and aspecially the tent in the center, next to Rufiji rivier, were great. Staff very thoughtfull and attentive. Good beds and sanitary. Great cook. Free WiFi. (more…)
In January this year I and other business associates planned a trip to Southern Tanzania and one of our stops was at the Selous. We organised the trip with Philbert and our first 3 days we set base at the Selous Mapumziko Lodge. (more…)
